We had a lovely morning stroll through the Crane Sanctuary in Kigali. While we had seen several pairs of Grey Crowned Cranes in Masai Mara National Park, it was fascinating to see more of them up close and learn more about this unique crane. It was also refreshing to see this focus on preservation and education in Rwanda.
When we were in the Mara, we witnessed a lovely dance! We learned that crowned cranes are monogamous and mate for life, and we learned about the dancing, bowing, jumping, and honking that go into a courtship. My favorite new knowledge is that grey crowned cranes can dance anytime of year - to keep things spicy! You can scroll through and see some of the photos from the sanctuary and the Mara. https://savingcranes.org/.../species.../grey-crowned-crane/

We also saw other birds on our morning walk - you might remember the weavers I mentioned in an earlier post, bright yellow and weave baskets that hang on the ends of branches - you can see a great photo of several birds and their baskets. You will see other birds as well - Jason is more knowledgeable on the birds after this trip, so maybe he can chime in.
Finally, we walked through a butterfly garden - it's always fun to see these beautiful creatures up close!
